| Thought of the Day | |
| Today I visited Nabipur village in my native District
to seek the payment from one of the debtors of my in-law’s business. The
person is a debtor since 2018 and has avoided calls and changed numbers
several times to evade payment. He is infamous for defaulting on credits. Although
he owns pockets of land, he has been conducting himself like a defaulter. People
from his village know of his reputation and are willing to offer leads to his
whereabouts and his contact number. We know a few people in the village whom we reached out
for his whereabouts. One of he knowns is the village head and received us
warmly for a cup of tea. He too had suffered this person’s unpaid debts.
Although they had now been able to get some money back but they had a tough time
making him toe the line. The head took me on the terrace room of his house where
we could have a look at the defaulter’s house. There was no car parked
outside. This meant he was not at home. The head then told me to come at a
time when he was home. He was willing to pass on the information whenever I
wanted. It was better to confront him face to face than getting the message
passed through his family. Why do people like these bring disgrace to themselves
and their families? I am sure that it is difficult to face people coming to
your home seeking money long due. It would certainly cause anxiety and embarrassment.
The one who is to get money can go to extents and spoil your day with his taunts
and foul language that can go against one’s dignity. Why place your family in such a spot? Often these
people put their wives in front to face lenders coming home to seek dues. This
happened yesterday as well wherein the fellow had trained his wife to say No
if someone asked for him. What a shame to be living a life of lies and hiding
in holes. One should not spend before earning it. This means one
should take on credit only what one can return. People have great aspirations
to own stuff but they do not have even the modest means to pay for these aspirations.
Some fraudsters do it on purpose. They have no intention to pay off the
credit. Such fraudsters should be named and shamed. They should also be reported
to the police. I hope that things fall in line with this defaulter as conflict
is not easy. It is a stress even for the lender as it is for the debtor. | |

| Book I read:  My learning | I am currently reading Show Your Work by Austen
Kleon.   The pocket-sized chapters covered various
concepts detailed in small paragraphs below: There are problem writers face while introducing
themselves at the parties. People generally assume that if they have not
published any books then they must not be earning any money. One should be open
about what they do. Never exaggerate what you are not. On other instances if you need to write about
yourself, you should be open about your life. A great saying by George Orwell
goes like: Autobiography is only to be trusted when it reveals something
disgraceful. So, show all your sides and not just the sunny sides. Next part was to teach what you know. Always
share your trade secrets. The minute you learn something, turn around and
teach it to others. This will make you good at what you do as you help others
be better at what they want to be better at. The author impressed on the concept of listening.
Always listen more than you speak. In same fashion, read more if you want to
be a good writer. Last chapter that I read today was on
connections. Connections come from being good at one does. If you do well in
your craft you will give you a clout and meaningful connections. This is true
for professionals and artists alike. If you excel in your profession you are
sure to invite respect and recognition from people that matter. It is easy to
fall in trap of flattery and seeking connections for the sake of it. Long
lasting connections weave around the good work that you do.   |
